Legal Philosophy

"The leading rule for the lawyer...is diligence."
                                       Abraham Lincoln

For legal services, we focus our attention on estate and elder law matters.  The best plan is to have a plan, anticipating possible problems that might come up.  We help you focus your attention on critical issues such as the following:

  • If you become unable to make decisions, who should manage your finances?
  • Where do you keep your important legal, medical, and financial information, and do the right people know where to find it?
  • If you are terminally ill, what kind of life prolonging procedures, if any, would you want?
  • If you need nursing home care, do you want and preserve your assets for your family by qualifying for Medicaid?
  • If you are in a second marriage or have children outside of your marriage, what special provisions do you want to make for your children?

Planning ahead is great, but it’s not always possible or sometimes people plan ahead, but something goes wrong.  For example, a person may sign a power of attorney but refuse help from their agent at a time when they need help. In that case, a guardianship and conservatorship through the court may become necessary.

We work with families in all stages of planning, including during crisis situations.
